Echoes of Mystralia Relics — Run Power for Mazarim
Passive bonuses that reshape spellcraft limits from Ash Forest trash to Guardian arenas.
What Relics are
Relics are passive items Mazarim collects during a single run in Echoes of Mystralia. They sit in a dedicated inventory tab—dev streams show them accessed alongside the Watcher’s Heart menu—and apply their effects until the run ends. Unlike Memories, Relics do not attach to the spell canvas. Unlike Lotus petals, they do not persist after death or return to Azimuth Temple.
Narratively, Relics are physical echoes of Mystralia’s fractured past—charms, incenses, and Watcher-linked artifacts pulled from the same Cycle of Memories the Rift consumes. Mechanically, they are the roguelite layer that lets two players with identical Memory drops play differently because one grabbed focus points and the other grabbed shield sustain.
The Ash Forest demo includes roughly fifteen Relics. Early Access on August 11, 2026 expands the pool to 40+ across three regions, elite routes, and optional cursed relic branches that trade harder fights for juicier rewards.
Minor vs major Relics
Borealys categorizes most drops as minor relics—steady bonuses you can stack without rewriting your entire plan. Dev stream examples include +50% damage while low health, a classic risk-reward pick for aggressive kiting in Ash Forest trash.
Major relics arrive from elite challenges, guaranteed map destination nodes, or cursed routes. They “have more impact” in developer wording—often granting Watcher Link bonuses like extra focus points, which unlock Memories that otherwise cannot slot on the Heart. Major relics are build-defining: a focus-heavy major enables five-modifier chains demo accounts cannot legally equip without it.
You can hold multiple Relics at once. Inventory management is reading synergies, not choosing one holy artifact. A minor shield Relic plus a major focus Relic is a legitimate defensive-caster package before Therakan.
How Relics drop
Combat and event rewards. Standard nodes offer Relic OR Memory OR mixed choices. Demo footage shows players skipping Memory picks to grab shield sustain—valid when trash damage is the wipe cause.
Shops. Merchants sell minor relics alongside triggers and modifiers. Soul Bead economy matters: sometimes a shop Relic completes your build cheaper than gambling a boss reward.
Elite challenges and map destinations. Early Access lets you path toward nodes that guarantee a major relic if you finish the branch—formalizing demo elite behavior. Cursed variants attach fight modifiers (more elites, less healing) in exchange for stronger Relics.
Boss and Guardian clears. Therakan and later Guardians may inject relic choices into reward pools. Check Beat Therakan for phase pacing before you take damage-amp Relics that punish mis-dodges.
Relics do not appear at the Altar—that system spends Echo Fragments on permanent upgrades documented in Altar upgrades.
Verified demo Relics and archetypes
Public footage confirms names and effects; the full demo roster is intentionally discoverable. Treat this table as pattern documentation, not a datamined 100% list:
| Relic (verified or archetype) | Effect summary | Build role |
|---|---|---|
| Spirit Guard Incense | 20% chance to gain 5 shield on killing nearby foes | Trash sustain, demo favorite |
| Low-health damage (minor) | +50% damage while below health threshold | Aggressive kiting, Therakan phase bursts |
| Watcher Link / focus (major) | Grants focus points for deeper Memory chains | Enables advanced canvas rows |
| Memory slot +1 (minor) | Increases Memory capacity on spells | Long-chain triggers without major focus |
| Element diversity amp | Bonus damage per different element on a spell | Hybrid Archetypes |
| Haste / mobility (archetype) | Movement or cast speed | Luciame wind-and-fire answers |
| Max HP / damage reduction (archetype) | Survivability | Beginner safety per Beginner builds |
| Static / status synergy (archetype) | Amplifies lightning or burn stacks | Pairs with Inner Storm trails |
| Soul Bead economy (archetype) | Shop or reward bonuses | Route planning on adventure map |
| On-kill proc (archetype) | Effects after eliminations | Clear-speed runs, incense-like shields |
| Spell slot utility (archetype) | Heart slot or swap quality | Dual-spell role separation |
| Curse-tagged major (EA) | Stronger effect, harder route modifier | Risk/reward destination nodes |
Early Access adds region-specific Relics tied to new Guardians, elements beyond demo fire/ice/lightning/wind, and more majors that reward specific Memory tier list picks.
Relics reshaping playstyle
Relics do not change your base spell form—they change what rules you can break.
Focus-heavy runs play like puzzle games. You hunt major relic routes early, accept weaker minor bonuses, and slot Memories such as multi-link triggers that demand three focus points. Mid-run you feel weak until the major lands; after, screens explode. Without focus Relics, the same Memories stay inventory clutter.
Shield-stack runs play like action sustain. Spirit Guard Incense and on-kill shield minors let you face-tank telegraphed hits while channeled spells finish. Pair with Combat controls dash discipline—not face-tank alone.
Low-health berserker runs embrace damage amp minors but require elite execution. One extra hit ends the run. Strong for speed clears once Ash Forest patterns are muscle memory.
Hybrid element runs need both Memories and Relics agreeing. Grab diversity amps only after your canvas actually mixes elements; otherwise mono-element Relics out-dps wasted synergy.
Synergy with Memories and builds
Use this checklist at every Relic reward:
- Does this fix a hard lock? Focus points unlock greyed Memories—immediate pick.
- Does this multiply my best row? Static synergy + Inner Storm beats generic +10% damage if lightning is your boss spell.
- Does this cover my last wipe reason? Shields for trash, haste for Luciame, HP for Therakan ground hazards.
- Does this conflict with cursed routes? Major greed on a brittle canvas wipes in EA elite chains.
Memories define spell logic; see Memories guide. Builds package both; see Builds hub and Spell Builder for offline planning.
Lotus petals sometimes mirror Relic families—extra focus from both Altar and Relic stacks. Coordinate spending in Lotus progression so you do not double-buy the same breakpoint.
Common Relic mistakes
Chasing majors before basics. A focus major without connectable Memories wastes an elite route.
Ignoring minors that stabilize. Low-health damage is useless if you die before proccing threshold.
Duplicating Memory roles via Relics. Two haste sources without boss DPS still fails Therakan timers.
Skipping inventory reading. Relics like focus grants have non-obvious rules—open the inventory tab dev streams highlight.
Hoarding for “later.” Relics are run-local; pick what helps the next two nodes, not a hypothetical fifth region you have not unlocked.
EA outlook
Forty-plus Relics sound like a spreadsheet. In practice EA adds region identity—snow biomes favor chill synergy, later Guardians drop majors that reward pierce or orbit setups demo players never needed. Revisit this page after launch patches; Borealys already iterated demo Relic availability between Next Fest builds.
Relics are how Mazarim carries the Cycle of Memories through the Rift without cloning the same canvas every run. Collect them with the same intention you place Memories—one row at a time.
Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers Watchers ask before and after Early Access.
How many Relics can Mazarim hold at once?
Multiple Relics stack in run inventory. Dev streams confirm you can carry several minors and majors simultaneously—read each tooltip for conflicts.
What is a major relic?
A stronger, often build-defining Relic from elite challenges or guaranteed map destinations. Examples include Watcher Link focus point grants.
Do Relics work with both spell slots?
Most Relics modify Mazarim globally, so both Watcher's Heart spells benefit. Focus points apply per spell slot rules shown in inventory tooltips.
Are cursed relics in the demo?
Cursed routes expand in Early Access with explicit map destination nodes. The demo previews major relic risk via elite challenges.
Spirit Guard Incense — worth it?
Yes for trash-heavy paths. The 20% on-kill shield proc stabilizes Ash Forest packs while you learn dash timing before Guardian fights.
