Memory Tier List

How to read this tier list

This ranking reflects public demo and Next Fest knowledge as of August 2026—not private EA balance sheets. Borealys is actively patching Memory behavior (June 2026 added Icy Path, Luminous Trail, Unfulfilled Desire, Pressure Buildup, Empty Stomach). Early Access launches with 100+ Memories across three regions, so treat every row as provisional.

Tier meaning:

  • S — Efficient in most demo routes; low skill floor or high ceiling with clear payoff
  • A — Strong with setup or encounter specificity
  • B — Situational; wins runs when paired correctly but not auto-pick
  • C — Niche, high friction, or outclassed by alternatives in known content

We rank Memories, not full builds. Canvas order, Relics, and Lotus slots move items up or down—see Triggers & Modifiers and Archetypes.

S-tier Memories (demo-informed)

MemoryTypeWhy it ranks high
Inner StormModifier (lightning trail)Applies static that releases chain lightning; strong mob clear and scales with density. Tooltip clarity helps beginners.
Destructive PathModifier (fire trail)Reliable burn ground; pairs with kiting and Spiraling spawn setups.
Manifest of DemocratizationModifier/buff+10% damage per different element in chain—rewards planned hybrids for EA scaling.
Rolling StoneTrigger (on spawn)Adds zone control at 25% damage scaling without extra aim; dev-stream favorite starter.

Caveat: Inner Storm may underperform pure boss tests without adds unless static thresholds tune upward in EA.

A-tier Memories

MemoryTypeNotes
Spiraling RageTrigger (on spawn)Huge screen coverage at ~45% spell damage spiral; performance and readability costs keep it from S in boss-only metrics.
Windy DayModifier (wind trail)50 haste enables Luciame and elite telegraph play; lower direct DPS than fire/lightning trails.
Cruel ThornsTrigger (on hit)Ice fragments + chill when parent connects; useless on whiff-prone charged spells.
Icy PathModifier (ice trail)Solid chill support after Next Fest; competes with Inner Storm for slot on hybrid canvases.
Self-centeredModifier (orbit)S-tier in skilled hands for spiral/fire vortex clips; B-tier default due to self-damage risk—listed A as skill expression.

B-tier Memories

MemoryTypeNotes
Luminous TrailModifierAdded June 2026; needs more public footage for EA promotion—likely damage utility trail.
Pressure BuildupModifierDamage pacing modifier; rewards long fights if tuning holds.
Unfulfilled DesireModifierConditional payoff—strong when condition matches route, dead otherwise.
Empty StomachModifierResource-linked; tier rises if EA economy pushes bead starvation routes.

Distance-based fireball triggers (tutorial examples) land here: powerful on boomerang paths, weak on short casts.

C-tier / niche (for now)

Memories that require on-kill triggers or heavy setup without demo-proven payoff sit here until EA documents them. Dev commentary notes on-kill chains are harder to experiment with—surprise value for veterans, friction for beginners.

Do not assume C-tier means “bad forever.” EA Guardians may inject encounters where niche triggers shine.

Element synergy tie-ins

Tier shifts when paired:

  • Inner Storm + static Relics → likely S for pack-heavy EA regions
  • Destructive Path + Spiraling Rage → clear S, boss B unless Relics add single-target punch
  • Windy Day + Luciame → situational A for one encounter, B elsewhere

Read Elements before forcing democratization picks—tier assumes you can supply distinct elements cheaply.

What Early Access will change

Steam promises 16 starting spells, 40+ Relics, and 100+ Memories. Unknown Memories may obsolete this list within weeks. Watch for:

  • Guardian-exclusive drops
  • Altar/Rifted Echo unlocks
  • Patch notes adjusting static thresholds or trail duration (~1 second in demo tooltips)

When Borealys rebalance, update JSON sources and run wiki verify—never hand-edit generated MDX.

How to use tiers in runs

  1. Draft boss spell first — pick S/A modifiers that match hit profile
  2. Fill clear spell — Spiraling or Rolling Stone tiers rise with spawn frequency
  3. Check Relics — static or trail Relics bump lightning/fire rows
  4. Avoid tier chasing — a B-tier Memory that completes your second element beats an S-tier duplicate trail

Translate tiers into routes via Beginner builds or experiment in Spell Builder.

Honesty clause

If a Memory is missing from this list, it was not verified in public demo footage at authoring time—not an endorsement to ignore it. EA players should submit findings to community channels Borealys monitors (Discord, Steam forums).

Tier lists are shorthand. The Watcher’s Heart rewards players who read tooltips, not tier colors alone.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers Watchers ask before and after Early Access.

Is this tier list official?

No. It is an unofficial, demo-informed ranking for wiki readers. Borealys does not endorse tier placements; balance will change during Early Access.

Why is Spiraling Rage not S-tier?

It excels at mob clear but adds visual noise and may underperform dedicated boss tests without supporting Relics. Skill and encounter context matter.

Will new Memories be ranked at launch?

EA adds Memories beyond the demo pool. Expect gaps until players document them; revisit this page after major patches.

How does democratization affect tiers?

Manifest of Democratization jumps toward S when you can cheaply add distinct elements. Without hybrid support, it drops toward B.
